Nebraska City 2 BaseLoad Coal Purchase
Developed and operated by Omaha Public Power District (OPPD), the Nebraska City 2 plant provides reliable base load coal power. The plant went into service in 2009. CMPAS has an at cost power purchase agreement with OPPD for capacity and energy for the life of the plant (30 years).
WPPI BaseLoad Nuclear Purchase
In 2012, CMPAS entered into a 20-year purchase power agreement for reliable, low-cost baseload nuclear power with Wisconsin Public Power Inc. CMPAS will receive 16 MW of capacity and energy sourced from the Point Beach Nuclear Energy Center, owned and operated by NextEra Energy Resources in eastern Wisconsin. For CMPAS project participants, this nuclear purchase will mitigate potential high natural gas prices or future government-imposed carbon costs.
CapX Brookings Transmission Project
As a participant in the CapX Brookings transmission projects, CMPAS owns 3.9 percent of the 250-mile line along with Xcel Energy, Great River Energy, Ottertail Power Corporation and Missouri River Energy Services. This 345kv line goes from Brookings County, ND to Hampton, MN.
CMPAS invested in the CAPX Brookings transmission line as a strategy to hedge future MISO Transmission usage rate increases. The investment allows CMPAS to earn a 12.38% return on equity and will result in $42 million of participant and Agency benefits over the life of the project.
Rugby Wind Project
Pierce County, North Dakota: CMPAS signed two different wind contracts with Rugby Wind LLC for a total of 13.1 MW. One contract equals 4.5 Mw with power delivery that began in 2011 and another contract equaling 8.6 Mw that started a year later. The term of both contracts is 15 years.
Wolf Wind Project
Nobles County, Minnesota: In early 2005, CMPAS arranged for a 6.25 Mw wind contract with Wolf LLC. Power delivery started in April 2006 with a contract term of 15 years.
